VW Split screen hearse 1965 'Ernie'

1965 silver VW splittie hearse 'Ernie'
Split screen VW hearse at Brading down Isle of Wight

This is Ernie, he's a 1965 Volkswagen split screen 13 window deluxe micro bus. Being the deluxe model he had some nice factory fitted 'bling' to set him apart from the working commercial van. We have added to it with stainless steel bumpers and chrome wheels. He is absolutely gorgeous (in our opinion of course). The hearse has two tone silver paintwork and he glistens in the sunshine.

He's originally from Ohio in the USA and he started life as a mini bus, I suppose the fore runner to the modern day people mover.

He was imported, restored and commissioned as a fully functioning hearse in 2012.

We have added a classic looking Retro Sound system with an auxiliary input should you want us to play your loved ones favourite tunes. (This is not a CD player)

For every booking made with Volkswagen Funerals a confirmation email will be sent. It is vital that you contact us if for some reason you do not have one. This letter contains important information about your booking. If you do not have a confirmation from us then you should double check that you have booked our vehicles.

Split screen VW hearse by the sea We travel nationwide with our hearses, although they are tucked away safely inside our lorry.
Wicker coffin inside alternative hearse Volkswagen Funerals split screen hearse, the coffin can be raised into the windows on the deck assuming the coffin spray isn't to big for the whole lot to be lifted.

To complement Ernie we have 'Winnie' his little sister who is designed for some family members to travel in behind the hearse. *

Ernie is a purpose built funeral vehicle and has all the fittings and insurances required to safely convey a casket to its final resting place.

The friendly nature and look of the Volkswagen may help at the very sad event of a funeral. A fleet of formal looking black funeral vehicles can be quite daunting, the light coloured paint work makes our fleet approachable and a little easier for children to cope with if they are attending the funeral. We are always happy for you to have time with the cars after the funeral for photographs etc.

Ernies coffin bier (deck) can lift into the windows. There is plenty of space inside the hearse but if you're in doubt about coffin size or floral tributes please let us know.

If you are considering hiring one of our VWs for a funeral we need to know where in the country the funeral is taking place in order to calculate the cost for you. There is no obligation. Please make sure that if you do wish to book with us that you check our availability. We will pencil in an enquiry for a maximum of 24 hours while you make arrangements, after this time we will assume that you do not require the hearse. Bookings are subject to terms and conditions and are first come first served.

* Please note our passenger bus Winnie is limited to shorter distance unfortunatley as she to drive her to her destination if hired with our hearse. This is further explained on her page.

UK weather is often problematic more so when you have to travel so we have an operator licensed covered vehicle transporter to ensure the hearse arrives to your area clean and safe and sound ready and on time for the funeral. Having our own transportation also means we are able to provide a nationwide service and the cars are kept in tip top condition as they should be for such an important event.

You won't be disappointed with the quality of our cars.

         Woodland Burial poem

                 by Pam Ayres

Don't lay me in some gloomy churchyard shaded by a wall
Where the dust of ancient bones has spread a dryness over all,
Lay me in some leafy loam where, sheltered from the cold
Little seeds investigate and tender leaves unfold.
There kindly and affectionately, plant a native tree
To grow resplendent before God and hold some part of me.
The roots will not disturb me as they wend their peaceful way
To build the fine and bountiful, from closure and decay.
To seek their small requirements so that when their work is done
I’ll be tall and standing strongly in the beauty of the sun.
